Have you ever loaded up a cart at Goodwill and felt like people were staring? Today, my daughter and I cleaned out the whole book section.
Over 100 books went into our cart.
The cashier gave us a look—like we were building some kind of odd library at home. But really, we were prepping for her wedding.
Her theme? "Love story."
So after Goodwill, we hit Hobby Lobby and bought mountains of moss and a pile of glue sticks. We dragged it all home, set up in the living room, and got to work.
Glue guns on.
Moss everywhere.
Soon the room smelled like grass and burnt glue. Friends and family stopped by and just stood there.
Some laughed:
"Pinterest never mentions glue gun burns!"
"Will you even finish one of these?"
And my husband?
He asked, "Did a squirrel break in and start decorating?" But when we finally finished the first centerpiece, it actually looked really cute.
We laughed about the mess.
We looked like two wild ladies covered in moss.
But it was handmade, and it was ours.
Plus, we saved thousands.
Ordering fresh flowers would've been easy, but way more expensive. Here's the part that stuck with me—people might not always understand your messy way of doing things.
They might even make jokes.
But that doesn't matter.
When you do things your way, even if it's a little chaotic, that's where good memories start. If you feel like you're the only mom faking it as you go, trust me, you're not.
It counts when you try.
It counts when you get a little weird.
That's where all the best stories come from anyway. |
