Hey friend,
So, two weeks ago, my son is at the dinner table and says, "Mom, I'm getting married. In Mexico. In two weeks. Can you come?"
I felt my heart drop right into my stomach.
I don't speak Spanish. My husband couldn't go. I had no clue what airport signs meant—besides maybe 'Starbucks.'
But, when your kid asks, you just say yes and hope for the best, right?
I landed in Mexico City with sweaty palms and zero idea where I was. I asked my son: "Help! Where do we go?" His reply: "Wait by the blue sign. Valery's family will get us."
Total strangers were supposed to find me. Then, his soon-to-be mother-in-law and future wife ran over, shouting my name with a giant smile. She gave me the warmest hug and made me feel so welcome. All I could say was "hola" and "gracias," but somehow, it worked.
They took me everywhere—tiny taco spots, loud busy markets, and into their world. We laughed, pointed at things, and passed my phone back and forth using Google Translate. Even though we didn't speak the same language, we figured it out. Before this, the thought of going somewhere alone scared me silly. But I went anyway. It turned out to be one of the best weeks I've had.
Here's what I noticed:
Sometimes, the stuff that feels the weirdest or scariest is the thing that actually makes life better. The adventure is worth the nerves.
If you're thinking about starting something new and it makes you sweat a little—like creating your first digital product—I totally get it. It feels like you're in a place where you don't know the language. Get started with your digital side business by clicking here. Let me help you...we won't even need Google translate. :)
But sometimes, saying yes (even if you're not ready) leads to really good things. Give it a shot. You might love it.
